Military Horseman


Description

A silver badge 2 inches (5.08 cm) in height and width consisting of the bust of a horse within a horseshoe which bears the inscription MILITARY HORSEMAN.


Symbolism

The horse is modeled after Black Jack, a coal-black quarterhorse that served for many years in The Old Guard Caisson Platoon. Both Soldiers and horses assigned to the Platoon undergo rigorous training to participate in the solemn ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery. They have the honor of carrying a comrade on one last ride to a hallowed place torestin peace with other honored dead.
